An Evansville man is in custody, accused of robbing a cell phone store at gunpoint.

Officers were dispatched to an armed robbery in progress at the Metro PCS in the 3200 block of Covert Avenue Saturday night.

An Evansville Police affidavit states the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Jarvis Handy, entered the store, pointed a gun at a sales associate, and demanded money from the cash register.

Once the money was handed over, police said Jarvis demanded more money from the store`s safe.

Another employee was inside the store and both were forced to the back room of the business where the safe was located.

Police said the suspect fled the store on foot, and officers apprehended Jarvis a short time later.

He faces preliminary charges including armed robbery.
