The father of an infant shot in the head in Evansville on Friday is in jail, initially charged with neglect in the case.
Evansville police say twenty-year-old Anthony Lamont Meriweather was arrested late Friday following a shooting that afternoon at an apartment in the 3900 block of Vista Drive.
In a release, EPD said when officers arrived, they found a nine month old girl with a gunshot wound to the head.
Citing a report in the Evansville Courier & Press, the Associated Press reports that Anthony Meriweather first told police that the girl was hit by someone shooting from a car, but later admitted that he fired a gun while handling it inside the apartment.
Meriweather is charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. He remains in jail without bond.
