The two year search for a new music director for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra came to an end over the weekend.
What was supposed to happen with great fanfare to a packed house at the Victory Theater Saturday night, happened instead with a little fanfare with a pre-announcement set by the Eykamp String Quartet on Facebook Live.
It turns out that of the five finalists who conducted the philharmonic during special performances this season, they saved the winner for last. Roger Kalia will succeed retiring maestro Alfred Savia beginning with this fall’s new season.
Kalia said, “This is an exciting time, not only for me, but for all of us, I think. We’re going to do everything we can to make the Evansville Philharmonic as well-known as possible in the community, in the Tri-State.”
Kalia’s first concert as music director of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra is scheduled for September 13th at the Victory Theater.
