First Vanderburgh County COVID-19 Case Identified

deaconess.com

This past Monday, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke predicted that the coronavirus was in Evansville. Thursday, those suspicions were confirmed.

Vanderburgh County now has its first confirmed case of COVID-19. Deaconess made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

In a release, the hospital says the unidentified patient was diagnosed without ever visiting a physician or medical facility. Instead, the patient was diagnosed by first contacting Deaconess Clinic through a video streaming session before being sent for curbside testing where the test confirmed a positive result.

Deaconess officials say the patient is doing well at home, in quarantine.  They stressed the recent measures put in place to diagnose COVID-19 without risking exposure for others worked in this case. They say they’re expanding the Deaconess Clinic LIVE sessions to 24/7 to handle the influx of potential cases during the current outbreak.
