The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office has released the results of an autopsy following a shooting that killed an Evansville firefighter.
Coroner Steve Lockyear says in an email that Robert Doerr died as a result of “penetrating trauma related to a gunshot wound.”
The coroner ruled the death of Doerr a homicide.
The 51-year-old was found shot multiple times outside his home in the 2700 block of Oakley St. Tuesday night.
First responders attempted to resuscitate Doerr but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evansville Police are asking for help from the public as they investigate the fatal shooting.

Doerr worked for the EFD for more than 27 years, mostly at Hose House 1.
