Firefighter Killed In Shooting

An Evansville firefighter has been killed in a shooting.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner identifies the victim as 51-year-old Robert Doerr.

Evansville Police tell the Courier and Press that Doerr was shot in the 2700 block of Oakley Street, north of Diamond Avenue, at about 7:00 Tuesday night.

First responders tried to resuscitate Doerr but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A caravan of public safety officers escorted his body to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they don’t have a suspect or a motive in the shooting and are asking the public for help.

You can call detectives at 812-436-7979 or the WeTip line at 800-78-CRIME.

It was the second death of an Evansville firefighter in a week.

51-year-old Fire Captain James Pauli died February 19th, after a medical emergency.
