The car landed upside down on escalators inside Bally's Conference Center; the driver was the only injury

One person was injured when a car ran off the top floor of the Bally’s Casino parking garage in downtown Evansville. WNIN’S John Gibson has more:

It happened at about 8:40 Monday morning.

Evansville Fire Department Deputy Chief Kim Garrett tells us what firefighters encountered:

"Crews arrived on scene to discover that a car had actually driven off the top floor of the parking garage and landed upside down on the roof and then fell through into the conference center in basically what is is an elevator lobby at the top of the escalators."

The incident caused extensive damage but the driver was the only person injured.

Garrett said he was able to get out of the car on his own.

"There's a large hole where the car went through the roof and the concrete barrier is laying up there also. The hole's about the size of a car-and-a-half ,maybe two cars."

The crash broke a water pipe, and it flooded part of the center.

The Evansville Building Commission was called to the scene to check the integrity of the building.

The casino was able to stay open.

More: While the casino stayed open, the parking garage was temporarily closed.
