Police have arrested an Evansville mother accused of harming her young child. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Police were dispatched to a home in the 1500 block of S. Kentucky Avenue Tuesday evening for a report of an unresponsive child.
AMR took the little girl to a local hospital, where the EPD says medical staff found severe head injuries that required emergency surgery.
Police say the child also had bruising on other parts of her body.
The EPD says the girl’s mother, 20-year-old Alexandrea Ring, told investigators her daughter had earlier soiled her clothes due to a poorly fitting diaper.
After changing the child, Ring said she couldn’t handle the girl’s crying, held her over a Pack 'n Play, and threw her in.
Police say Ring, who is 30 weeks pregnant, later altered her account, claiming her large belly prevented her from placing the girl in the Pack 'n Play properly, and that she accidentally dropped her.
The EPD says Ring also explained that the child fell face-first into a cabinet, striking her head on a metal piece.
Police say Ring contacted her boyfriend to express concern about the girl’s condition but failed to seek medical help until later, when the boyfriend got home from work.
Police arrested Ring on charges of Domestic Battery and Neglect of a Dependent.
