Three people were shot outside an East Side gas station early Sunday morning

Evansville Police say more arrests are likely after a weekend shooting that wounded three people. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Officers were dispatched to the On the Fly gas station at Covert Avenue and Green River Road early Sunday morning, where they found two people shot outside the station.

EPD Sgt. Trudy Day says a short time later, a third victim from the same incident arrived at a local hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.

Day says a juvenile was seriously wounded in the shooting and was transferred to a hospital outside of Evansville.

The other two victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Day says investigators were able to quickly establish suspects through interviewing witnesses and gathering video from the area.

They arrested 32-year-old Luther Lawton Jr. on charges of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and battery committed with a deadly weapon.

Lawton is being held in the Vanderburgh County jail.

Day says more arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
