Vanderburgh County reported 24 new cases Thursday. That makes 76 new cases in the past week.
After a downward trend, Vanderburgh County's COVID-19 infection rate has jumped significantly within the past few days. Thursday brought another new record number of cases, with twenty four being reported.

Local government and health officials updated the public on the spread of COVID going into the holiday weekend. At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Doctor James Porter with Deaconess displayed a graph that showed the rate of positive coronavirus tests at Deaconess had more than doubled over the past month.
“If that line continues to grow as it is, we will find ourselves in a relatively short amount of time in a position where we need to be extremely concerned about our ability to handle the volume of infections that there are in the community.”
Dr. Porter added that increased testing is also a factor in the rise in positive test results.
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says they are not considering a mandatory face covering measure at this time.
“If they continue to rise at this rate, we may have to do it. Right now, I think we need to implore people to take their personal responsibility and wear a mask”
WNIN reported earlier this week that the current spike in positive COVID cases is mostly young adults, many of who have traveled out of state in recent weeks. Many of those reported not wearing masks or social distancing.
