Local COVID Surge Mostly Young Adults

Vanderburgh County health officials have new information on the past week’s surge in local coronavirus cases.

The virus is here and if you don’t distance, mask and wash your hands, there’s a good chance you’re going to get it.  That’s the advice from Vanderburgh County health officials on the past week’s  58 new cases of COVID-19.

County health department administrator Joe Gries says nearly two thirds of the news cases are between the ages of 18 and 35 and 16 had traveled out of state, including to COVID hot spots in Florida. Gries says it’s a wake up call.

“We’ve kind of hit on this surge as a way to hit on the points and make sure people are aware of what they can do to protect themselves and others.”

Gries says in their investigation and contact tracing, there is no evidence the COVID-19 surge is related to recent protests in Evansville.
