EPD Sgt. Anna Gray briefs reporters Tuesday.

Following a gruesome scene reported to police inside the house at 1801 Stinson Avenue, four Evansville officers fired at a suspect who came out of the front door, appearing to be pointing a hand gun at officers.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, EPD Sergeant Anna Gray said it was not a gun, but an object shaped to look like one.

Gray described what officers found inside the home after the suspect was shot.

“Officers located an adult female victim, who had been tied up, shackled and had visible injuries. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Another individual was located inside the residence, but was unfortunately, deceased and beyond help. He had been restrained, duct-taped, beaten and strangled.”

The identity of the suspect shot by police will be released following an autopsy. Another suspect, 36 year old Heidi Carter, who is not from Evansville, was arrested and booked on various charges, including murder, rape and criminal confinement. The names of the two victims were not released.  SOF
