An Evansville woman will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of a Vanderburgh County sheriff’s deputy a year ago.
According to a Facebook post from the Vanderburgh County prosecutor, on Monday, 29-year-old Diana Ellmers pleaded guilty to attempted murder for the incident that happened in September of last year.
During a news conference at the time of the incident, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding described what happened when deputies confronted Ellmers and an accomplice, Cade Kirk, near the old Dogtown Tavern in Union Township.
“She disappeared shortly and then reappeared and fired multiple rounds at the deputy again. Several of those rounds struck our squad car.”
Ellmers was wounded in a subsequent search around homes in the area. She will be sentenced to 26 years in prison during a hearing next month.
