As high hospitalization numbers continue due to the Delta variant of the coronavirus, Army National Guard troops have been deployed to assist with staffing shortages at two Deaconess hospitals.

According to a Deaconess spokesperson, the Army Guard teams were deployed Friday to assist with staffing needs at Deaconess facilities. They will be here for the next week.

The Hospital Crisis Response Teams were sent to Evansville by the Indiana Department of Health.

Five Guard personnel are assigned to Deaconess Midtown and five at Deaconess Gateway.

They are a combination of medical and non-medical personnel.  The medical personnel will help with things like blood tests, taking patients’ vital signs and general patient care. Non-medical personnel will help with cleaning, meal deliveries, and patient transport.
