Man Arrested for Shooting Outside Dollar General Store

File

Evansville Police have arrested a man accused of an Independence Day shooting outside a Dollar General store.

Officers arrested 27-year-old Devin Hobby of Evansville for the shooting on a parking lot in the 2100 block of S. Weinbach Ave.

In a release, the EPD said officers found the victim near Kathleen and Weinbach with a gunshot wound to his lower back.

He told police he didn’t know the shooter or why he fired at him. The man was taken to a hospital.

Officers checked surveillance video which they said showed the shooter in the Dollar General for a few minutes before he had a verbal exchange with someone on the parking lot.

Police said the man brandished a firearm and began chasing and shooting at the victim.

The suspect then got into his vehicle and fled the scene before police arrived.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Hobby and arrested him on July 5th.

They say Hobby admitted to the shooting and was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
