A crew filming for a Discovery Channel program was in Evansville over the weekend at the LST 325 and the Evansville Wartime Museum.
LST 325 spokesperson Chris Donahue says he’s been working with a British production company for the past month or so, setting up Saturday’s shoot of the LST. The company sent out a crew from Kansas City to film a segment on the LST’s Higgins boats, the small landing craft that are carried on the LST.
Donahue says they first filmed the operation of the LST crew raising and lowering the Higgins boat. Then, they wanted to see the boat in action.
“Then we went out, down the river. They said, 'Can we put the landing gate down?' and we said, yeah we can do that." Donahue said. "So we did that up there where those seven or eight house are out there down by Marina Pointe. That’s a nice beach to land on.”
The crew also filmed at the Evansville Wartime Museum Saturday. Donahue says the segment will be used on the Discovery Channel Show Impossible Engineering sometime in the next year or so.
