2021 is the first year the championships were held at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro.
According to a release, over ninety musicians and dancers competed for state titles in fiddle, flatpick guitar, mandolin, bluegrass banjo and dancing at the championships, held last weekend in Owensboro.
When the last bow was laid down, Joel Whittinghill of Bowling Green was the overall Kentucky State Fiddle Champion. It is his sixth state championship title. He also took the state title in mandolin.
Another double state champion was Ivy Phillips in flatpick guitar and the senior level dancing competition. Rance Fouts is the 2021 bluegrass banjo champion.
The contest attracted musicians from fourteen states and was sold out for attendees at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum.
