For most Kentucky residents with diabetes, the days of having to decide whether to ration life-saving insulin because of high costs are over.
House Bill 95caps the cost of insulin at thirty dollars for a thirty day supply for those with state-regulated health care plans, plans purchased on the marketplace exchange, state employees and people under group health plans.
In an unusually bipartisan move, the Kentucky legislature passed House Bill 95 without a single negative vote. It was signed by Governor Andy Beshear Monday.
A release from the governor’s office says that over a half million Kentucky residents have diabetes.
On Monday, the governor also signed House Bill 50, to give state officials some leverage in working with health insurers to help those needing mental health and substance abuse disorder treatment get those services.
