EPD: Boy Shot by Cousin

File

One juvenile is critically wounded and another faces charges after a shooting near Downtown Evansville.

Evansville Police were called to the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue at about 9:00 Tuesday night for a report of shots fired.

Before officers arrived, they were told someone had been shot.

In a release, the EPD said officers found a boy in a backyard with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was quickly taken to a hospital and rushed into surgery.

Police said detectives spoke to all involved parties and concluded the victim and his juvenile cousin were in the backyard handling a firearm when the cousin said it went off and struck the victim in the head.

The cousin faces charges of Criminal Recklessness, Theft of a Firearm, and a Child in Possession of a Firearm.

He was taken to a juvenile facility.

The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released because of their ages.
