Local officials are scrambling to find help for households facing eviction because of COVID-19 illness or job losses.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb recently extended the moratorium on evictions in the state to August 14th. In a release Monday, Aurora of Evansville announced that assistance is available for those facing eviction or utility shutoff because of circumstances related to the pandemic.

Aurora of Evansville executive director Zac Heronemus says about 2,300 households may face water shutoff because of no payment, but the households facing eviction in Evansville is even higher.

“We have been given a number of approximately 2,800 households that are facing eviction. Those numbers come from the Property Owners and Manager’s Association.”

Heronemus says anyone wanting to apply for assistance should go to the Indiana Housing Now website, or call the local assistance hotline at 812.901.1059.
