EPD: Man Shot in Eye; Shooter Claims Self-Defense

File

Evansville Police are investigating a shooting that left a man wounded in the eye.

EPD Sgt. Nick Winsett says officers were called to the 4000 block of Longfield Dr. at about 1:30 Tuesday morning.

The caller advised that someone had been shot outside a home.

Officers found 22-year-old Angel Benjamin Hibbs and as they were speaking to him, Hibbs advised he couldn’t see because of a gunshot wound to his right eye.

Officers and firefighters provided medical care to Hibbs, and police found the suspected shooter, 23-year-old Jesse Tanner Bryant.

Bryant told police the shooting was in self-defense, because Hibbs tried to break into his home.

Bryant said Hibbs threatened to harm him as he was breaking in.

Hibbs was taken to a hospital.

There’s no word of any charges in the case.
