Work has started on replacing a well known landmark in Henderson County.
Drivers have a kind of a love-hate relationship with the narrow, nearly 90-year-old Spottsville Bridge over the Green River in Henderson County.
They love the convenience of having a bridge on U.S. Highway 60 between Henderson and Owensboro, but hate the idea of meeting a semi driving on the current ten foot wide lanes with almost no shoulders on the bridge.
That’s all about to change. According to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, work is underway preparing the area for construction of a new bridge next to the current one. Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Keirsten Jaggers says new bridge will have twelve foot lanes with an eight foot wide shoulder.
Completion of the new $32 million dollar Spottsville Bridge is expected to be in the second half of 2022.
