Police are looking for an Evansville man following the death of his infant son.

Evansville Police, AMR, and Evansville Firefighters were called to a home in the 1300 block of E. Illinois Thursday morning for a report of an unresponsive infant.

In a release, the EPD said “it was obvious the infant was deceased.”

Police said officers were able to gather information about the death from the mother, but the father had left before first responders arrived.

Police are looking for the father, identified as 28-year-old Jacob Wesley Bengert.

He’s described as a white man last seen wearing a blue New England Patriots shirt, black jogging pants, and black and green Nike shoes.

Police said Bengert may be suicidal and could be armed.

Anyone who sees Bengert is urged to call 911 and report his location to authorities.
