Pennsylvania Man Dies During Struggle With EPD Officers

Evansville Police continue to investigate the death of a man who died during a fight with officers.

Police were dispatched to the D-Patrick car dealership at 4300 Division St. Friday night for a report of an intoxicated man in a restricted area of the business.

The EPD say officers tried to detain the man, later identified as 55-year-old Edward Snukis of St. Clair, Pennsylvania, but he refused to cooperate and punched an officer in the nose, knocking him to the ground.

The EPD says a second officer TASED Snukis, but he was able to overcome the effects and began running from officers.

Police say he tripped and fell and officers caught up to him.

They say during a second altercation, Snukis continued to resist but was eventually handcuffed.

Officers say he then became unresponsive and eventually stopped breathing.

The EPD said officers performed CPR until medics arrived.

Snukis was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

An autopsy was conducted Saturday, but the coroner’s office has not released the cause of death.

Three officers have been put on leave, which is standard EPD procedure.
