Police agencies say they’ll step-up traffic enforcement this holiday weekend.
The Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer.
The AAA predicts 37.6 million Americans will travel by car this weekend to destinations including the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500, marking a 3.6 percent increase from last year.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from Saturday at 10:00 pm until 3:00 am Sunday.
As usual, the sheriff’s office isn’t saying where deputies will set-up the checkpoint but says it will be an area with a high number of hit-and-run crashes.
Meantime, Indiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies continue to participate in the “Click it or Ticket” enforcement campaign.
Troopers will be watching for unrestrained passengers in cars and trucks and for dangerous and impaired drivers.
Overtime enforcement is paid for through federal funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
