A Henderson County man is dead after telling authorities he accidentally shot himself.

Kentucky State Police say troopers are investigating the death of 76-year-old Paul Sutton.

In a news release, the KSP said officers responded to the 2200 block of Holloway Lane in Henderson County at about 10:15 Thursday morning, after Sutton called 9-1-1 and said he had accidentally shot himself in the abdomen.

Sutton was taken to Methodist Hospital in Henderson and then transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, where he succumbed to his injury.

Troopers believe Sutton shot himself while unloading a pistol.

The KSP says foul play is not suspected.
