Evansville shooting suspect captured in KY

The suspect in a fatal shooting on Evansville’s West Side has been captured in Kentucky.

Nicolas Belcher was shot and killed in the 1300 block of Mesker Park Dr. at about 10:30 Tuesday night.

In a news release, the EPD said officers were able to identify the suspect as 19 year old Caleb Kirk Singer.

Officers went to Singer’s address on Shiloh Square and reportedly saw him leaving in a vehicle.

Police said Singer drove east on Covert Ave at a high rate of speed, and officers were unable to catch up.

A short time later, an officer spotted Singer speeding through Newburgh but was unable to catch him.

Police said Singer was finally captured in Bowling Green, Kentucky at about 2:00 a.m. Wednesday.

EPD detectives traveled to Bowling Green to interview Singer and will seek charges against him in connection with Belcher’s death.

Police believe Singer was upset after a recent breakup with his girlfriend.

Singer reportedly believed she was spending time with another man and confronted Belcher in the driveway of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

A witness told police Singer shot Belcher as he sat in his car.

Singer is being held in the Warren County, Kentucky jail pending extradition to Evansville.
