Police: Officer shot man trying to disarm her partner

Evansville Police say a female officer shot a man after he tried to disarm her partner. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a news release, the EPD states officers were called to 114 S. Grand at about 5:15 Monday evening where a man who had allegedly assaulted a resident and refused to leave the home. 

Police say 2 officers arrived and were directed to the kitchen where they began talking to the suspect.

Police said he was uncooperative and wouldn’t follow instructions.

During the encounter, police said the suspect punched one of the officers in the face, knocked him to the floor, and tried to disarm him.

A second officer fired her handgun to stop the suspect.

The man stopped his attack after he was wounded, but police said he remained uncooperative as officers tried to handcuff him.

Police said the officers called for medical crews and began medical aid. 

The suspect was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The involved officers were placed on three-day paid leave.

The EPD said they’ve given initial statements and will provide more information about the incident.
