KSP: Henderson officer shot suspect "multiple times"

A Henderson police officer shot a man “multiple times” following a pursuit and a brief standoff.

Kentucky State Police say a preliminary investigation reveals Henderson City Police were trying to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation early Monday morning when the vehicle fled from a patrol officer.

In a news release, KSP says the fleeing vehicle stopped on MLK between Clay and South Adams, and the driver got out with a shotgun.

A brief standoff occurred between the driver and the officer. During the standoff, police say the man with the shotgun took a stance which – quote -- “created a safety concern for the officer.”

The officer fired his weapon at the suspect, striking him “multiple times in the abdomen.”

The officer was not hurt.

An ambulance took the suspect to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville where he was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon.
