Man arrested in synthetic pot probe

Police have arrested an Evansville man accused of distributing a dangerous batch of synthetic marijuana.

Evansville police and members of the Joint Narcotics Task Force arrested 36-year-old Tarone Johnson for allegedly dealing the substance.

A news release from the EPD says officers conducted a surveillance operation in the 100 block of W. Florida and saw Johnson conducting hand to hand drug transactions outside his house and at a nearby business.

Johnson was arrested on an active warrant and police say they recovered 110 grams of synthetic cannabis and drug dealing paraphernalia.

The arrest follows an investigation into recent overdoses of the illegal drug commonly known as K-2.

It’s believed to have been involved in 15-to-20 overdoses in recent weeks.

Police says they’re still working to identify the people who are dealing K-2.
