Parking rates going up at Downtown garages

It will cost more to park in Downtown Evansville’s parking garages, with some exceptions.

The Evansville Redevelopment Commission approved raising rates at both the Sycamore and Third Street garages.

Metro Development Director Kelly Coures says the move was overdue.

"Parking rates have not increased in seventeen years but the cost to maintain parking garages have steadily gone up." Coures said.

Coures explained daily rates will go up from $5.25 to $7.00 for a whole day and monthly rates will increase from $25 to $30 for parking on the roof of either garage.

He says parking rates for events at the Ford Center or Victory Theater will not change.

The Downtown parking garages are about 50% occupied most weekdays.
