Press Release - Earlier today, the Indiana University Board of Trustees voted to proceed with the design for construction of a four story building for the IU School of Medicine and its partner institutions, the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana, in downtown Evansville.
The medical facility will encompass approximately 149,000 gross square feet. The surrounding areas will contain significant landscaping, gathering spaces, and provisions will be made for adequate parking both onsite and on adjacent property. The design will also allow for future campus development on the site.
“Today we are one step closer to realizing our community’s vision of strengthening our region’s healthcare and medical educational base through the development of the new shared academic health education and research campus in downtown Evansville.” said Dr. Steven G. Becker, Associate Dean and Director of the IU School of Medicine-Evansville campus.
Additional approvals needed prior to an anticipated groundbreaking in the fall include a release of funds from the state budget committee. It has not been determined if the Evansville project item will be included in the October meeting agenda.
