Authorities have conducted a pre-Halloween compliance operation focused on registered sex and violent offenders. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies performed in-person checks at registered homes and workplaces to confirm addresses, employment, and other required registry information.
In some cases, deputies interviewed household members to help confirm registration requirements.
The sheriff’s office says 126 offenders were positively verified, four had failed to register, and two were arrested.
Sheriff Noah Robinson says the verification efforts help ensure registered offenders are complying with state law especially when families and children are enjoying Halloween.
Meanwhile on Halloween, drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert; parents and trick-or-treaters are urged to choose bright costumes and carry flashlights or glow sticks; kids should stay on sidewalks; and everyone should carefully cross streets only at intersections and crosswalks.
