A judge has accepted a plea deal and sentenced former Evansville Fire Chief Paul Anslinger to one year on probation

A former Evansville Fire Chief will not face any jail time after pleading guilty to theft. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

A judge accepted the plea from Paul Anslinger, dismissed three other charges, and sentenced him to one year of probation.

Anslinger must also pay six-thousand dollars in restitution to the fire department.

Police say Anslinger took tools from the department and transferred more than four-thousand dollars from the EFD Foundation to his own business account.

Anslinger retired as interim fire chief in 2024 after receiving a notice of discipline from the city.

In a separate case, Anslinger filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Evansville, seeking more than 30-thousand dollars in unpaid wages and damages.

The city and Anslinger reached a settlement in the suit.
