Father Sentenced for Daughter's Death

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office
Brent Bredhold of Evansville

A judge sentenced Brent Bredhold of Evansville to 9 years in prison for the diabetes-related death of his 12-year-old daughter

A judge has sentenced an Evansville man to nine years in prison for the death of his daughter. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Judge Ryan Hatfield sentenced Brent Bredhold this week after a jury convicted him of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury on October 1st.

Bredhold’s 12-year-old daughter, Alice, died last year and a forensic pathologist determined the cause of death was a life-threatening complication of diabetes.

The pathologist noted that Alice had a liver four times the normal size and a heart twice the normal size, both due to poorly controlled type-one diabetes.

Authorities say Brent Bredhold was offered education and training on diabetes care and about the importance of supervision.

But Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers says he didn’t follow up with healthcare professionals, did not heed advice or ask for help, and his daughter paid with her life.

Alice's mother, Ashley Marie Bredhold, is scheduled to stand trial on neglect charges in February.
