A Henderson County Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man who authorities say was threatening the officer with a machete. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
It happened Monday night in the 100 block of 8th street in Corydon.
The sheriff’s office says a deputy responding to a report of a family disturbance was confronted by a man carrying a machete.
Authorities say the deputy told the man, later identified as 64-year-old Charles Powell Jr., to drop the large knife but he refused and approached the deputy.
The sheriff’s office says the deputy deployed a stun gun but Powell continued to approach.
Authorities say that’s when the deputy shot Powell.
Officers attempted life-saving measures but Powell died en route to a hospital.
The name of the deputy has not been released.
Kentucky State Police took over the investigation, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings in the commonwealth.
