Dozens of animals, including some deceased, were removed from a Newburgh home

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two Newburgh women on animal neglect charges. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder says deputies assisted Animal Control officers serving a search warrant in the 7700 block of Maeylyn Court.

Wilder says after completing the search and investigation, detectives arrested the two occupants of the home.

29-year-old Shayna Burko and her mother, 61-year-old Kimberly Burko, both face charges of Neglect of a Vertebrate Animal with a Prior Conviction.

That’s a level 6 Felony.

Officials say Warrick Humane Society removed numerous animals from the home due to unsanitary conditions.

They took about 20 dogs, 1 cat, 2 birds, 2 turtles, 3 sugar gliders – small flying possums -- 2 bearded dragons, 1 gecko and a tank of Beta Fish.

Officials also say they found a dead turtle, dead guinea pigs and dead fish.
