The tragedy claimed the lives of Tallulah Dodd, 6, Pele Doerter, 8, and grandmother Saundra Dodd

Authorities have released the names of two children who died in a traffic crash with their grandmother in western Kentucky. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Officials say the crash that killed 68-year-old Saundra Dodd of Evansville also claimed the lives of two grandchildren, six-year-old Tallulah Dodd and eight-year-old Pele Doerter.

The Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation confirmed both children attended local schools, with Highland and Daniel Wertz elementary schools mourning the loss of students.

The tragedy happened Monday afternoon on Interstate 24 in Livingston County.

Kentucky State Police said a semi driven by a New York man failed to slow down in a construction zone near the Tennessee River and crashed into Dodd’s vehicle.

The collision led to several cars crashing in the zone.

Dodd and her two grandchildren died at the scene.

Another vehicle involved in the crash was carrying more of Dodd’s family members. Her husband, Allen Dodd, was seriously injured in the crash.

There’s no word of charges against the truck driver, but state police continue to investigate the crash.
