Word Convicted of Felony Nuisance

File

The school board member and former restauranteur will be sentenced in August

A jury has convicted Evansville-Vanderburgh School Board member Amy Word of Maintaining a Common Nuisance. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Word was found guilty for allegedly knowing about illegal drug activity at her former establishment, Lamasco Bar and Grill.

The jury reached the verdict Friday afternoon after a three-day trial in Sullivan County.

The trial was moved to Sullivan because of pre-trial media coverage in the Evansville area.

The 48-year-old Word reportedly rejected a plea agreement that could have led to the case being dismissed.

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers issued a post-conviction statement saying Word will no longer be eligible to serve on the EVSC board as a convicted felon.

The Lamasco bar is already under new ownership.

Word pleaded not guilty after her arrest nearly two years ago.

Police arrested her during a drug sweep in and around Lamasco.

Word’s sentencing is set for August 5th.
