Father Charged with Neglect for Baby Death

EPD
Samuel Womack, 25

EPD: Samuel Womack, 25, gave inconsistent statements about the one-month-old's death

An Evansville man has been charged with neglect after the death of his baby. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Police were called to the 100 block of South Green River Road in reference to an unresponsive one month old.

The EPD says the infant’s father, 25-year-old Samuel Womack, called 911 to report that the baby was not breathing.

Womack reportedly told officers that when he woke up, he discovered the infant lying face down in the bassinet with blood coming from the baby’s mouth and nose.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures but the infant was pronounced deceased a short time later at a local hospital.

The child was in the father’s care the while the mother was at work.

Police said Womack’s statements throughout the investigation were “inconsistent”.

Officers arrested Womack on a charge of neglect of a dependent causing death.
