EPD: Cop was temporarily blinded when hit by teens that he and other officers were trying to arrest

Evansville Police say an officer has been released from the hospital after being attacked by two people he was trying to arrest. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

EPD Sgt. Anna Gray says officers responded to a report of a young man and a young woman screaming at each other in the 200 block of W. Delaware St. early Sunday morning.

The man was also reportedly hitting the woman.

When officers arrived, they found the young woman, 18-year-old Destinee Littlepage, hugging the young man, 18- year-old Malachi Littlepage.

Police say the two are related but also in a romantic relationship – and Destinee had a protective order against Malachi.

Gray says officers attempted to separate the two so they could interview them separately but they became irate.

Police say Malachi kicked one officer in the knee and the other officer in the face, temporarily blinding him.

Gray says during the struggle, Destinee joined in and hit both officers as well.

The officers were eventually able to gain control, but Destinee allegedly kicked another officer several times.

The officer who was kicked in the face had a severe eye injury and a broken orbital bone and was treated at a hospital.

Malachi and Destinee were taken to the Vanderburgh County jail and face several charges, including Aggravated Battery and Resisting Law Enforcement.
