Woman Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

File

EPD: Woman refused to drop a gun

An Evansville police officer shot a woman to death Wednesday evening. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

EPD Sgt. Anna Gray say officers first encountered the woman during a disorderly conduct call in the 600 Block of Cross St.

A short time later, police were called to the same area for a report of a person with a gun.

Police say an officer spotted the woman in the 1500 block of S. Evans and ordered her to drop the weapon.

The EPD says she did not comply and the officer discharged his gun.

The female was hit, fell to the ground, and landed on the gun she was carrying.

For safety purposes, Gray says an EPD K9 was used to separate the female from the gun so officers could approach her and render first aid.

Officers, an AMR ambulance crew, and Evansville Fire Department medics attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity has not yet been released.

No one else was injured.

Sgt. Gray calls the case an “active investigation.”
