EPD: Arrest Solves Catalytic Converter Thefts

File

Matthew William Gunn., 35, is accused of multiple thefts in the Tri-State

Evansville Police believe they’ve solved a number of catalytic converter thefts. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The EPD says a large-scale investigation led to the arrest of 35-year-old Matthew William Gunn.

Gunn is accused of stealing catalytic converters across the tri-state.

He’s being held in the Vanderburgh County jail on multiple felony counts of Theft of Auto Parts.

Catalytic converters help clean vehicle exhaust, but they’re also a target for thieves because of the price of precious metals used in the parts, like palladium and platinum.

To protect your vehicle from converter theft, experts say keep your car in a garage, if you have access to one.

Those without a garage should try to park in a well-lit area, or somewhere you can install a security camera.
