Evansville police say a man opened fire inside the West Side Walmart Thursday night, wounding one person before officers shot and killed him. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Police were called to the store on Red Bank Road at about 10:00 p.m.
EPD Sgt. Anna Gray told media outlets that the suspect shot at officers and moved “throughout the store.”
The department posted an alert on Twitter at 10:12 p.m., asking the public to avoid the area. Two minutes later, the EPD tweeted that the threat had been “neutralized."
The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Ronald Ray Mosely II. He was reportedly a former Walmart employee.
Mosely died at the scene.
Police say Mosely shot one person who was taken to a hospital. The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
Police say there may be as many as 50 witnesses to the incident.
Authorities were expected to update their investigation during a news conference later Friday.
