Evansville Couple Charged in Infant Death

File

The child was found not breathing in bed

An Evansville couple faces neglect charges after their infant was found deceased.

Evansville Police say officers responded to a “medical assist” in the unit block of W. Oregon St. just before 7:00 this (Wed) morning.

The caller said a one-week old baby was not breathing.

Fire department and AMR crews tried to resuscitate the infant but were unsuccessful.

The EPD said officers found what appeared to be narcotics and paraphernalia in plain view inside the home.

Police say detectives interviewed the parents and learned that the mother, identified as Taylor Smith, went to sleep with the child and woke up later with the child underneath her body.

The father, identified as Timothy Wilson, was also at the home.

Police say Wilson admitted he had been ordered by the Department of Child Services to not be around the child due to a prior investigation.

The EPD said the home had no running water and conditions were “not favorable.”

Police arrested both Smith and Wilson on charges of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death.
