Dec 1, 2014

An appliance company opening a plant in Evansville is looking for a sculpture to display outside its new facility.

Haier America will open it first technology center in the United States on Indiana Street, west of Willard Library, next year. And to celebrate the opening, the appliance-maker is commissioning an outdoor metal sculpture that will be visible from the Lloyd Expressway.

It will be displayed on the east side of the former Coca-Cola bottling plant, either on the ground or mounted on the wall.

The flirtatious character is wearing little more than leather pants and glitter, but by day, the actor underneath the stage makeup is a paralegal, who works full-time at the Vanderburgh County Courthouse.

The Henderson Area Arts Alliance has a new executive director, but he’s not a stranger to the job’s territory.

Fifty five-year-old Henderson resident, Greg Gibson, assumes his new post with nearly 25 years of experience in marketing, management and entertainment. Among his variety of jobs, he was a designer for Disney. But Gibson is not afraid to keep learning on the job, he said.

“I am an open book when it comes to learning,” Gibson said. "I have some years on me, but you never stop learning. That's one of the reasons why I'm so excited about this job."
