Update: One Dead, Four Wounded in Weekend Shootings

Update, 11/2/20:  The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office has identified the person found shot in a vehicle on N. Kentucky Ave. as 33-year-old Meghan Jewes of Evansville. 

Just before seven p.m. Saturday, police were called to the scene of a traffic accident at North Kentucky Avenue and Keck in Evansville.

According to a release, emergency crews tried to revive the driver, without success. The coroner’s office determined that the victim had been shot. The case is being investigated as a homicide. The victim’s name was not released.

Then around two a.m. Sunday, two people got into a gun battle outside the Sidetrack Tavern on East Illinois in Evansville. In all, four people were wounded, none of the wounds are believed to be life-threatening.

Off-duty police working as security said they couldn’t engage the shooters because of the large number of people nearby. Police are looking for the two suspects who fired the shots.
