Facebook

A man who served as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney in the Evansville area has died.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says Jonathan Parkhurst died at the age of 57.

Sheriff Dave Wedding appointed Parkhurst to the Sheriff’s Merit Board in 2018.

In a release, the sheriff’s office noted Parkhurst served as chief trial attorney for the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office, chief deputy prosecutor for the Posey County Prosecutor’s Office, and later as a special prosecutor for the State of Indiana.

He also served as deputy public defender for the Vanderburgh County Public Defender’s Office.

Parkhurst graduated from the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Iowa College of Law.

The sheriff’s office said Parkhurst always found time to sit down with deputies and “thoroughly prepare a case.”

It said his counsel and friendship will be sorely missed.

There was no word on the cause of Parkhurst’s death.
