Convicted Murderer Sentenced to 65 Years

An Evansville judge has sentenced a man convicted of murder to 65 years in prison. 

Fitolay Demesmin was sentenced for the stabbing death of 28-year-old Diamond Sheppard-Rankin.

It happed at a home in the 700 block of Taylor Avenue in 2019, and a jury convicted Demesmin.

In a release, Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann thanked Vanderburgh County Chief Deputy Kevin McDaniel and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Charlie Berger for working to “bring this case to justice” along with Evansville Police Detectives Anna Gray and Aaron McCormick.

The release said the prosecutor’s office was “thankful” the jury held the defendant accountable for Sheppard-Rankin’s death.
