EPD Earns Accreditation

File

The Evansville Police Department has been re-accredited by a national law enforcement agency.

The purpose of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement or CALEA, is to make sure police agencies measure up to international public safety standards.

Now, after a multi-year assessment of community engagement, policies, procedures and equipment, the Evansville Police Department has once again been awarded this national accreditation.

According to CALEA, the accreditation process is a voluntary way for agencies to show how it meets essential criteria to ensure public safety.

Officials say the public should care about whether or not a police department is accredited because it means they are meeting the highest standards of public safety.

EPD was first accredited by CALEA in 1994.
